Comfort is famously, proudly unincorporated — and the locals want to keep it that way. This small community in Kendall County sits along Cypress Creek and US-87, about midway between Boerne and Kerrville, and has developed one of the most concentrated collections of antique shops, art galleries, wineries, and eclectic restaurants per capita of any town in the Hill Country. Nearly every building in the historic downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Downtown antique district — High Street and its surroundings host dozens of antique dealers, vintage shops, and design studios in beautifully preserved 19th-century limestone buildings. It's one of the best antique hunting destinations in Texas.
Bat observation at Old Tunnel State Park — About 11 miles northeast toward Fredericksburg, the old railroad tunnel is home to three million Mexican free-tailed bats who emerge at dusk from May through October in one of the great natural spectacles of the Hill Country.
Wines of Comfort and other local tasting rooms bring the wine trail right into the historic district.
Treue der Union Monument — A Civil War-era monument to German settlers who were killed by Confederate forces because of their Union sympathies. One of very few Confederate monuments in the South to honor Union supporters. A poignant piece of Texas history.
