Horseshoe Bay is a premier resort community on the shores of Lake LBJ in Llano County — one of the most developed and amenity-rich lake communities in the Texas Hill Country. Built around three championship golf courses and extensive marina facilities, it attracts an affluent clientele seeking a full-service resort experience in the Highland Lakes.
Horseshoe Bay Resort — The centerpiece of the community, this full-service resort offers three championship golf courses (Ram Rock, Slick Rock, and Apple Rock), a marina, spa, multiple pools, tennis facilities, and fine dining. One of the premier resort destinations in Central Texas.
Lake LBJ — The constant-level lake (maintained by Wirtz Dam) is one of the most desirable boating lakes in the Highland Lakes chain because consistent water levels make dock maintenance and water access reliable year-round. Boating, water skiing, fishing, and wakeboarding are all excellent.
Vanishing Texas River Cruise — Operating from Lake Buchanan just north of Horseshoe Bay, this naturalist-led cruise through the canyons above the lake is one of the premier wildlife-watching experiences in the Hill Country. Bald eagles winter here in significant numbers.
Balcones Canyonlands Wildlife Management Area — Public hunting and wildlife viewing land accessible from the Horseshoe Bay area.
The Horseshoe Bay Resort's dining facilities provide quality options without leaving the resort campus. The surrounding community has grown to support several restaurants and a small commercial area. For more extensive dining options, Marble Falls is about 7 miles east and provides a broader selection.
Horseshoe Bay sits on FM-2147 about 7 miles west of Marble Falls, which is on US-281. From Austin, take US-183 north to US-281 northwest, then FM-2147 west. From San Antonio, take US-281 north past Blanco and Johnson City to Marble Falls, then FM-2147 west.
